Our adventure began with Myself, Ian and Kevin’s character (henceforth known as Goken, Artifex-5 and Maralen respectively) being kicked out of Wynarn Academy, one of the most prestigious schools for adventurers to attend in the kingdom of Aundair. We were given a week (that turned into a night) of lodgings in one of the middle class neighborhoods of the city and sent on our way. While Artifex and Goken had been relatively acquainted before, it took a little bit of time for Maralen to warm up to either of us, or for us to warm up to her for that matter. While taking our respite in the Eagle’s Rest, we spent several hours being accosted by an overly drunk Half Orc named Kak who was very curious about us, particularly with Goken didn’t drink, and what we could go. we learned of the possibility of work with the House Orion’s coach business and decided that the three of us would go to explore that option the following morning.
The next morning we attempted, with no luck, to gain employment at the Guild house of House Orion and then the primary station for the lightning coaches. After failing that, we decided to check out the University District and see if any of our old favorite professors would be willing to help find us employment through their contacts. We went to one of the premier taverns in the U District, the Library, and attempted to find someone who might show us some favor. Our luck did not seem to be with us until Artifex noticed the master of Laboratories (whose name escapes me, if someone wants to insert that here) that he had known during his time at the school. the Professor prompted adjourned to the Faculty only section, and after some failed attempts to lie our way in, Maralen thought it a far better idea to deploy a magical fog cloud over the whole bar and sneak into the section. We were immediately confronted by the Professor, who was a pompous ass, wanting to know what in the hell we were doing. After some delicate diplomacy (and a 50 gp glass of wine) he informed us that the Master of the Antiquities Museum, Professor Kelsen Dor, might have need of our services.
We proceeded to the Antiquities Museum and met the Professor’s assistant, Beatrice Sykes, who told us there was a job, but to return in about an hour while she attempted to find him among the exhibits and stacks of the Museum. After spending an hour perusing the Museum and then listening to the tall tales of old timers in the Adventurer’s VFW across the street, we came back and presented ourselves to Professor Kelsen Dor. He told us he needed some strong and skilled people to escort a selection of parts being sent to the Starpeaks Observatory in the mountain to the north of city in time for a very important event. After that he needed a letter delivered out to the Thronehold island to an old friend of his. after some haggling over the price of the journey and our bonuses, we took our leave and prepared for the trip.
The following morning Beatrice arrived to show us to the House Orion staging area for our quest. We were given horses, presented with the wagon carrying all of the parts and equipment and then introduced to Dale, our small human driver out on his first caravan. We rode off but it wasn’t a few hours before we were attacked by two bandits looking for our lives. We handily dispatched the two would be assassins and learned, thru some influential magic, that these two had been dispatched by someone named “The Master” to dispose of us. They had orders on them that included detailed drawings of all of our group, what our cargo was and what route we planned to take. It also included an odd seal none of us could recognize and a small child’s poem that our prisoner told us was used for “authentication”.
Symbol carried by attackers
With nothing left to learn from the attackers, we left them tied to a tree, arrived at the nearest town and reported their whereabouts, and stopped in a park for to camp for the night.
